Italy, December 2-12We loved Italy--the history, the culture. The cities themselves are works of art. With only 10 days to spend in Italy, we visited the main tourist sites.
What a beautiful country. And the people and the dogs! All very stylish. Keeping with our emerging theme of exploring the history of the Jews, we ended up visiting the Jewish ghettos in Venice and in Rome, which really gave me a better sense of the intricate, complicated and painful journey of the Jewish people. And, continuing on with Jewish people on (delightful) journeys, I present to you some hotel and restaurant recommendations: VENICE. The city of my dreams! A vivid watercolor. We stayed at Hotel Olimpia. Our room was teeny, but like a beautiful little Disney princess castle. It was in the perfect location--just a 2 minute walk from the bus and train station. ROME. Hotel Julia was, eh, but the location was fantastic and the price was right. There were a couple of restaurants that we enjoyed in Rome--Gioia Mia, which is just a block from the hotel, and Piccolo Arancio, also very close--near the Trevi Fountain. Considering it's in the heart of a major tourist attraction, the restaurant was nevertheless classy, cozy and delicious. FLORENCE. Our hotel, Pallazo Guadagni--a gem, was located in Piazza Santo Spirito. Great little piazza with some cool flea markets and shops. It's a little removed from the touristy hustle and bustle, though everything you'd want to see is really accessible. The very best pizza we had on the entire Italy trip, Gusta Pizza, was just outside of the piazza as well.
